Eagle Owls continue to learn about how to read music and play increasingly more complicated tunes. This week they have been given the challenge of learning Silent Night on the recorder, if they would like to, to play in the Christmas production!

Barn Owls created our own Friendship – Soup, thinking carefully about what the ingredients should be.
They have also enjoyed using different movements to keep the beat in music, as well as playing the glockenspiel with increasing awareness of timing and rhythm.

Owlets have been listening to the story of The Stick Man. We collected twigs and made our own Stick Man.
We also painted and decorated a money box.
Eagle Owls have begun reading How To Train Your Dragon, by Cressida Cowell – we are finding it very amusing, and also noting how different the direction of the movie went!
In English, Barn Owls have been learning about the features of instructional texts. This week they were challenged to follow instructions to make a model mammoth. They had a lot of fun making them and then they had to evaluate the effectiveness of the instructions and decide how they could be improved.
In Snowy Owls, the children are really enjoying reading alternative versions of fairy tales in preparation for writing their own version of Little Red Riding Hood. They have started reading Little Red Riding Hood this week, and have been sequencing the events of the story.
Owlets read through Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert and then went and found some autumn leaves of their own to thread onto a leaf ‘kebab’!They also tried leaf rubbings. A beautiful way to look in detail at autumnal leaves.
This week Eagle Owls started to use our Orienteering course that we have now set up on school grounds. They used the map to orientate themselves and the things that they could see, in order to find a set of controls that would lead them to a code name. They enjoyed the activity and did a lot of running!
