Snowy Owls visited Pensthorpe as a scientific enrichment day, studying birds and mini beasts as well as habitats and pond-dipping. A great day was had by all.

They were also allowed to go on the enormous play apparatus, including a huge slide!

Owlets celebrated Chinese New Year, the year of the Rabbit. We tasted noodles and prawn crackers and tried to use chopsticks! We listened to the story of The Great Race and ordered the animals according to their finishing position in the face. A fun time for Reception!

In Eagle Owls, pupils tested different surfaces for friction acting on a trainer with a spring balance, testing frictional force. The topic is Forces and involves lots of learning outside the classroom.

In Science  this week, the Barn Owls explored different magnets. We then wrote about what we did and what we had found out.

The Snowy Owls have enjoyed further exploration of ice this week during Science. The children added salt to an ice bowl and observed how it melted the ice. They added paint to watch where the salt melted the ice first – great fun!

Owlets have been celebrating Chinese New Year! Reception children were born in the Year of the Rooster and the Year of the Dog. We read lots of different stories, these are our favourites.

Eagle Owls are developing their skills in gymnastics, working in pairs or small groups. Year 5 are focussing on Matching and Mirroring, with the added dimension of trying to find contrasting shapes this week. They work so well together and have lots of fun.

Year 6 are focussing on Tension and Counter-Tension and are challenging themselves to create balances using the apparatus. They show high levels of skill and think through the shapes they create, involving trust and communication to hold the balances.

The Barn Owls have started to create their own Zones of Regulation Booklets. They started by recognising what feelings or events may put them in each of the four zones.

 

   

They have also been thinking ab out what makes them proud and what makes them unique as an individual.

Snowy Owls had a lovely week, including a visit to Pensthorpe Natural Park, which we will post about next week! They  have been exploring warm and cool colours in art. They have looked at Monet’s Snow Scene and created their own versions.
