Barn Owls and Eagle Owls enjoyed a Fantastic Forces Science workshop with Dr Cato where they explored forces as scientists and engineers. There were hands on activities as well as demonstrations that appeared to be magic! Don’t be surprised if they challenge you at home to one or two things from this great afternoon of science enrichment.
In Science this week, the Barn Owls explored different magnets. We then wrote about what we did and what we had found out.
The Barn Owls have started to create their own Zones of Regulation Booklets. They started by recognising what feelings or events may put them in each of the four zones.
They have also been thinking ab out what makes them proud and what makes them unique as an individual.
Last week in Barn Owls we set ourselves goals for the new year and we are flying high to meet them!
We have also finished the topic from last term about the Stone Age by creating our own cave art.
We then started thinking about our new topic for this term – all about NORWICH.
Finally in maths this week we have been doing the YouCubed Inspirational Week of Maths. We have had fun doing lots of different tasks where we have had to think out of the box and use our growth mindset. We created a double page spread to shoe our learning.
Another active day for our Barn Owls as they went to Gressenhall for a Stone Age living history day. They looked at stone age equipment including having a go at ploughing the fields with wooden ploughs!
They created shelters, working in groups to make a shelter from our weather! Aren’t we glad that we moved on to houses!
They also had a go at throwing spears to replicate hunting skills of the stone age.
The whole school collaborated for a Church art project making lanterns. It was a lovely afternoon.
Barn Owls created our own Friendship – Soup, thinking carefully about what the ingredients should be.
They have also enjoyed using different movements to keep the beat in music, as well as playing the glockenspiel with increasing awareness of timing and rhythm.
In English, Barn Owls have been learning about the features of instructional texts. This week they were challenged to follow instructions to make a model mammoth. They had a lot of fun making them and then they had to evaluate the effectiveness of the instructions and decide how they could be improved.
Here are some photos from Barn this week.
